| The Regional Museum of Koper was founded in 1911, a year after the successful exhibition entitled »THE FIRST ISTIRAN DISTRICT EXHIBITION«, at which the cultural heritage of Istra was presented. Today, the parent museum building presents an archaeological collection and collections covering the history of culture, art and history of Istra from its very beginnings to the end of the 19th century. In the pavilion along the Museum's lapidary, a collection of the recent history of the Southern Primorska region is presented, while at Gramsci Square an ethnological collection is on permanent display. Under the auspices of the Koper Regional Museum, the Prem castle has also been opened.
